About this Course

In June 2011, seven SNC students and two faculty members will travel with the Truckee, CA-based Bodhi Tree Foundation to deliver pre/postnatal vitamins and medical supplies to the women of Humla, the most remote region of Nepal, deep in the western Himalayas. This trip will be the center of two courses each student will complete; the students will gain traditional academic and real-world knowledge of Service Learning as well as Nepali art and culture. In addition to our service, we will visit many significant cultural and religious monuments for both Buddhists and Hindus. Join us as we prepare for this adventure of a lifetime.

On Sunday April 17, all of the girls except Jenny (sad face) went snow shoeing up Tamarack Peak (elevation 9,882 feet). It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm and April was able to give us some great information about how teams function and work together. I think all of the girls would agree that it made us realize that this is going to be a lot of work but that we are all capable of doing it! After the climb we of course got some Chai tea and then had a gear meeting with Sarah . Which I think helped us all breath and realize that we were going to survive this trekking experience. Overall it was a fantastic day and I'm excited for more like it.
