About this Course

In June 2011, seven SNC students and two faculty members will travel with the Truckee, CA-based Bodhi Tree Foundation to deliver pre/postnatal vitamins and medical supplies to the women of Humla, the most remote region of Nepal, deep in the western Himalayas. This trip will be the center of two courses each student will complete; the students will gain traditional academic and real-world knowledge of Service Learning as well as Nepali art and culture. In addition to our service, we will visit many significant cultural and religious monuments for both Buddhists and Hindus. Join us as we prepare for this adventure of a lifetime.

Fundraising

Thank you to everyone who attended the Nepal Buffet Dinner on March 23 - we raised over $5,200 through ticket sales, raffle drawings, prayer flag sales, and generous individual donations.

Thank you so much for giving to support our work in Nepal. The SNC women going on this trip are shouldering all the costs of their work that cannot be offset by fundraising. So please give what you can!

To donate now, click the Blue Online Giving button to the left to be redirected to our payment gateway.  You should enter "Nepal" in the Student ID field; if you would like your donation to be designated for a specific student on the trip, enter her information as well.

Here are some examples of what your donation might pay for:
  • $20 = 10 Clean Birth Kits (SNC women will deliver at least 300 of these on our trip).
  • $175 = a pair of hiking shoes (the women will hike more than 200 miles to visit the villages).
  • $250 = Sleeping Bag and Mat (Temperatures will be as low as 0 degrees at night).
  • $500 = cargo charges to deliver our vitamin supplies from Kathmandu to Simikot.
  • $1000 = Two Maternal Health Trainings in Humla village.
  • $2000 = cost of airfare to Nepal.
