About this Course

In June 2011, seven SNC students and two faculty members will travel with the Truckee, CA-based Bodhi Tree Foundation to deliver pre/postnatal vitamins and medical supplies to the women of Humla, the most remote region of Nepal, deep in the western Himalayas. This trip will be the center of two courses each student will complete; the students will gain traditional academic and real-world knowledge of Service Learning as well as Nepali art and culture. In addition to our service, we will visit many significant cultural and religious monuments for both Buddhists and Hindus. Join us as we prepare for this adventure of a lifetime.

Pretty Exciting Stuff

The Nepal travel course is being featured on the front page of the college website, and it is also on the front page of the SNC insert that will go into the Lake Tahoe Bonanza (our local newspaper). Amye and I couldn't have dreamed how much excitement this trip would generate!

This week we have been talking a bunch about how important it will be to find great ways for each of us--students, faculty, everybody--to document our own personal reactions to this journey as it happens. We really feel strongly that to wait until we all return home to process our reflections will be much too late. Some great ideas that we have tossed around are daily video diaries; regular video-recorded group discussions; handwritten (or typed) personal journals, Photo journals and essays, and--this is the one I'm personally most excited about--students interviewing each other about key events and experiences.

Does anybody out there have other great ideas about how the students can record their journey? Let us know in the comments!
